NARIT Optical Laboratory recruitment Research assistant in mechanical and system engineer

About NARIT and the Thai Space Consortium 

NARIT is a leading organization in Thailand and South-East Asia based in Chiang Mai. In particular, NARIT manages the Thai National Observatory at a 2,457m site on Doi Inthanon, with a new 2.4-meter telescope which is the largest in South East Asia. NARIT also comprises an optical laboratory which includes all the essential equipment to perform cutting edge research in optics.

In the framework of the development of a space payload for the Thai Space Consortium, the NARIT Optical Laboratory is recruiting a mechanical engineer.

Duties 

The mechanical engineer will be a member of the NARIT Optical laboratory and he will report to the leader of the optical laboratory and to the Thai Space Consortium project manager. He will perform the system and mechanical analyses of the TSC Optical Payload by performing the following duties:  

To Define the payload mechanical and thermal design with Solidwork software.

To support to the definition of optical element specifications with the optical engineer.

To participate to the analyze of the tolerancing result analysis.

To perform the Finite Element Simulation of the payload mechanical and thermal performance with ANSYS software. 

To Issue the drawings of the payload mechanical parts and to define the specifications and the requirements of each sub-system.

To participate to the selection of suppliers of the payload components and sub-system 

To follow-up the manufacturing activities of the payload components. 

To establish the mechanical and thermal performance budget and to define the compliance status. 

To participate to the definition of the interface between the space optical payload and the platform.

To participate to the definition of the payload Assembly, Integration, Test & Verification activities.

 

 Requirements for the position

Master degree in system and/or mechanical engineering. 

Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical and thermal design with Solidwork software. 

Minimum 5 years of experience with ANSYS software.

Fluent in written and spoken English. 

Strong motivation for the development of space paylaod

Minimum 5 years of  Experience in system/mechanical design and simulations: 1 to 5 years.

Contact and conditions

The position is for one year, with extensions possible. The monthly salary shall be negotiable and competitive.

This salary would be inclusive of housing allowance and medical insurance, subject to income tax. Cost of living and income tax in Thailand are considerable lower than, e.g., those in western countries. Chiang Mai is a vibrant and pleasant city in northern Thailand, with many touristic attractions and a large expatriate community.
