The Ambassador of Thailand to France – as the Permanent Delegate of Thailand to UNESCO – leads Team Thailand including the Deputy Permanent Delegate of Thailand to UNESCO, NARIT Executive Director and NARIT Foreign Affairs Team to pay the courtesy call to UNESCO Deputy Director-General and UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences to discuss and strengthen the ongoing collaborations of the International Training Centre in Astronomy under the auspices of UNESCO, a UNESCO Category II Centre in which NARIT is hosting.

NARIT Wins ‘Outstanding Organization in Science and Technology Award’.

The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) – NARIT, Ministry of Science and Technology wins an ‘Outstanding Organization in Science and Technology Award’ from Thailand Toray Science Foundation at its 25^th Presentation Ceremony of the year 2018 in the ‘Organization’ category. Given NARIT’s outstanding research and development in Thailand’s astronomy, which reflect our commitment to further develop research works, high-technology astronomy, educational transfer, public outreach and ultimately to create the awareness of astronomical enthusiasm in Thai society – using astronomy as a challenge for human capacity and technology development in the long run.

The SKA Era has officially begun, with Asian countries stepping up to the forefront.

This ‘Square Kilometer Array’ aka SKA draws a lot of attention not just in the Radio Astronomy world but rather in the extensive ranges of scientific and engineering fields across the universe. The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) has thus taken a leaping step as Southeast Asia’s leader in astronomy to organize the Second Asia SKA Initiative On Neutron Stars (ASIONS) Meeting in Chiang Mai during 29 – 30 January 2019.

Krabi commenced an advanced platform of The 7th International VLBI Technology Workshop (IVTW2018), which gathered 40 specialists, scientists and astronomers working in the field of the Very Long Baseline Interferometer (VLBI) worldwide to brainstorm their genius works into an integrated solid work plan. In order to enhance international cooperation towards Thai VLBI Network (TVN) and the National Network for Radio Astronomy and Geodesy (NNRAG).

SEAAN 2018: A Great Leap Forward of Astronomy in Indonesia

Over 80 local and intra-regional participants gathered in Bandar Lampung, Sumatra, Indonesia for the 10th Southeast Asia Astronomy Network (SEAAN 2018), hosted by Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA), Groundbreaking Ceremony of Lampung Astronomical Observatory (LAO) and MoU Signing Ceremony between ITERA and NARIT.

Rizal Technological University opened its doors to welcome Team NARIT to the Philippines to co-organize the first Astronomy & Astrophysics: Data Research Analytics Workshop during 15 – 16 August 2018 at the 10th Floor of the Senator Neptali A. Gonzales Academic Hall. The conference was attended by students and faculty members from Mapua University, New Era University, RizalTech, and by astronomers from the Astronomical League of the Philippines.

The annual “Optical Design Summer School” resumed for the third time in 2018 during 5 – 10 August with 25 international attendants worldwide. This year, once again, the school was organized by the International Training Centre in Astronomy under the auspices of UNESCO (ITCA), the Centre hosted by the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) in the heart of Chiang Mai. Prof. Theirry Lepine from Institutd’Optique Graduate School also returned to give lectures in the school.

For most people, Bhutan is known for its unparalleled picturesque sprawl of rugged landscapes, ranging from sub-tropical plains in the south, to the sub-alpine Himalayan mountains in the north - supreme conditions for hiking and trekking activities, coupled with its photogenic and hospitable people, Bhutan is, by all means, a hidden gem for tourists for it is perceived as one of the most untouched and pristine destinations in the world. Its economy prospers from agriculture, hydroelectricity, forestry, and tourism for which are accounted the majority of the entirety. Not to mention, Bhutan’s pioneering concept of “Gross National Happiness”, a philosophy initiated by the 4th King of Wangchouk Dynasty, H.M. Jigme Singye Wangchouk, where the main focus of collective happiness of the Bhutanese is considered the main priority - more important than the internationally so called “Gross National Product”. However, another perception towards Bhutan is about to be added to its already existing glorious image – Bhutan with strong Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and workforce towards knowledge-based society, driven by Astronomy.
